Probably the best advice I ever got in my life was from my friend, accountant and business advisor Peter O'Brien who said, 'Stick to Advertising, you really aren't cut out for accounting.' So began a long relationship, starting in 1985 by nurturing Westpac to fund me a dwelling and with little start up cash, bigger brotherly advice when I strayed from the straight and narrow, guiding me into our SMSF and, reminding me (no that's Joan O'Brien) when I'm late with a return or something scary about ASIC. Over 30 constructive years of managing without mothering me and still friends even with his sometimes-pithy jokes.
